Description

BAE OPzV batteries exceed the highest EUROBAT classification for maintenance-free lead-acid batteries, Long Life 12+.

For applications with high demands on operational reliability and bridging times from 1 hour up to more than 10 hours, BAE SECURA OPzV batteries are the right choice.

They are used for standby power supply in telecommunications equipment, microwave radio stations, emergency lighting systems, and other installations.

Construction

Positive electrode
Tubular plate with polyester gauntlet and solid grids made of corrosion-resistant PbCaSn alloy

Negative electrode
Grid plate in PbCaSn alloy with long-life expander

Separation
Microporous separator

Electrolyte
Sulphuric acid with a density of 1.24 kg/l, immobilised as GEL using fumed silica

Container
Impact-resistant, halogen-free SAN (styrene-acrylonitrile), grey-coloured, UL 94 HB

Lid
Impact-resistant, halogen-free SAN, grey-coloured, UL 94 HB
Optionally available in ABS (container and lid), compliant with UL 94 V-0

Blocks with blind cells
4 V, 6 V, 8 V, 10 V

Valve
One valve per cell with flame arrestor
Opening pressure approx. 100 mbar, closing pressure approx. 50 mbar

Terminal bushing
100% gas- and electrolyte-tight, sliding, plastic-overmolded tank pole

Terminal design
M10 brass insert

Connectors
Insulated copper busbars (90 or 150 mmÂČ) or flexible insulated copper cables (35, 50, 70, 95 or 120 mmÂČ)

Protection class
IP25 according to DIN 40050, protection against accidental contact in accordance with VBG 4

Horizontal operation
Only the special type OPzV “horizontal” may be used. Its design and manufacturing process are specifically adapted for this purpose.

Charging

IU characteristic curve
Maximum current (Imax) possible without limitation

Float charge current
20–30 mA per 100 Ah

Boost charge
2.35 to 2.40 V/cell, time-limited

Charging time to 90%
6 hours at 1.5 × I10 initial current, 2.25 V/cell, after 80% C3 discharge

Float charge voltage
2.25 V/cell ±1% between 10 °C and 45 °C
Temperature compensation: −0.003 V/K below 10 °C (monthly average)

Discharge Characteristics

Reference temperature
20 °C

Initial capacity
100%

Depth of discharge
Normally up to 80%

Deep discharge
Discharges beyond 80% and below the current-dependent end-of-discharge voltages must be avoided

Recovery after deep discharge
The GEL system allows complete recharge and recovery after unintended deep discharges

Maintenance

  • Every 6 months: Check battery voltage, pilot block voltages and temperatures
  • Every 12 months: Record battery voltage, block voltages and temperatures
