Description

BAE Secura PVV BLOCK solar batteries do not require water refilling throughout their entire service life and are therefore maintenance-free. As a result, electrolyte level checks during maintenance are not necessary.

The batteries are used for storing electrical energy in smaller photovoltaic solar systems.

Due to the robust tubular plate design, BAE solar batteries are characterised by long service life and high cycle stability.

Construction

Positive electrode
Tubular plate with a woven polyester gauntlet and solid grids made of corrosion-resistant PbCaSn alloy

Negative electrode
Grid plate in PbCaSn alloy with long-life expander

Separation
Microporous separator

Electrolyte
Sulphuric acid with a density of 1.24 kg/l (at 20 °C), immobilised as GEL using fumed silica

Container and lid
Impact-resistant, grey-coloured SAN (colour may vary slightly and differ from illustration)
UL 94 classification: HB
Also available on request in ABS with UL 94 classification: V-0

Valve
With flame arrestor, opening pressure approx. 120 mbar

Terminal bushing
100% gas- and electrolyte-tight, sliding, plastic-overmolded tank pole

Protection class
IP25 according to DIN EN 60529, protection against accidental contact in accordance with VBG 4

Horizontal operation
Only the special type PVV “horizontal” may be used. Its design and manufacturing process are specifically adapted for this purpose.

Installation

BAE Secura PVV block batteries are designed for indoor applications.
For use in outdoor cabinets, consultation with BAE is recommended.

Maintenance

  • Every 6 months: Check battery voltage, pilot block voltages and temperatures
  • Every 12 months: Check connections and record battery voltage, block voltages and temperatures

Operating Characteristics

Depth of discharge (DOD)
Max. 80%

  • Uₑ = 1.91 V/cell for discharge times > 10 h
  • Uₑ = 1.80 V/cell for 1 h
Deep discharges beyond 80% DOD should be avoided

Initial charging current (bulk phase)
Unlimited; minimum charging current: 1.5 A per 100 Ah (C10)

Charging voltage (cyclic operation)
2.30 V to 2.40 V per cell (observe operating instructions)

Float charge voltage (standby operation)
2.25 V per cell

Temperature compensation of charging voltage
No adjustment required if the monthly average battery temperature is between 10 °C and 45 °C
ΔU/ΔT = −0.003 V/cell per K below 10 °C

Full charge
100% within 1 to 4 weeks

IEC 61427 cycle life
2,100 cycles (A+B) at 40 °C

Battery temperature
-20 °C to +45 °C
Recommended range: 10 °C to 30 °C

Self-discharge
Approx. 2% per month at 20 °C

Delivery

Batteries are not subject to ADR regulations (road transport) provided the conditions of special provisions 598 and 238 (Chapter 3.3) are met.

As BAE cells/batteries comply with the IMDG Code (GGVSee), they are also not classified as dangerous goods for sea transport.
